Job Description:

This position falls under the classification of Park Ranger 1.

What you will do:
You will perform, conduct and oversee a variety of tasks in order to protect, maintain, operate and repair state park lands, natural and cultural resources, structures, facilities, equipment and systems.
You will be using skills in building trades, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting and landscape maintenance.
In addition, you will use specialized program skills (e.
g.
:
resource interpretation, cultural and natural resource restoration, utility infrastructure operation, park rule enforcement, etc.
) related to the maintenance and operations of OPRD programs and properties within the Devil's Lake Management Unit / Ocean Shore State Recreation Area.

Minimum
Qualifications:
Two (2) years of visitor services experience (e.
g.
rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.
) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.
g.
, construction trades, landscaping).
OR An Associate's degree or higher in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies or a related field; AND Six (6) months of visitor services experience (e.
g.
rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.
) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.
g.
, construction trades, landscaping).
Special Requirements Have a criminal history background check that meets OPRD criteria at the time of hire and throughout employment.
Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of hire and throughout employment with a driving record that meets OPRD standards.
Must wear OPRD supplied uniform and comply with appearance code while on duty.
Must comply with and adhere to applicable federal, state, local, and agency rules, laws, standards and policies.
Obtain and maintain one or more of the following after appointment, as applicable or required to perform duties of the position:

Experience in park and facility operations and maintenance, including but not limited to restroom/shower cleaning, plumbing, grounds keeping, and carpentry.
Skill in the safe use of tools, material and equipment associated with landscape, building, facility, and utility system maintenance.
Experience in evaluating situations, applying Park rules and guidelines, to determine and carry out appropriate course of action to achieve desired results.
Skill in Campground operations including, but not limited to computer knowledge, camper registration, cash handling, dealing with customer complaints, providing exceptional customer service, end of shift reports, and reconciling paperwork.
Self-motivated/self-directed to start projects and follow through to get projects done in a timely fashion.
Being able to multi-task and adjust to change throughout the work day while maintaining a positive attitude.
Leadership experience and/or skills working with diverse work team, which could include Park Hosts, permanent or seasonal staff, and work crews.

The salary listed is at the non-PERS rate.
Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) eligible employees will have their base salary increased by 6.
95% and pay the 6% employee contribution to PERS.
